History

Woodland Design Associates, Incorporated is a land planning and design firm located in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, founded in 1984, by Michael C. Wood RLA, and has provided the private and public sector with innovative solutions for over 30 years. The professional practice specializes in creating aesthetically pleasing and functional land planning and design solutions which respect the environment. With a national reputation for resolving land use and environmental conflicts, the team at Woodland takes pride in creating clear, construct-able solutions.

With a strong environmental focus, Woodland Design begins with a site specific approach-- identifying opportunities and constraints for each unique project; including a key understanding of local, state, and regional permitting and zoning code.  This approach has led to project success across a multitude of [project] scales and types--from historic to commercial and from utility to residential.

Historic and cultural facilities like the Dorflinger-Suydam Estate and the Wayne County Historical Society were among their first clients, and Woodland Design is proud to provide design services to them now, over 30 years later. The firm also had the opportunity to work on the residential landscapes of Drew Lewis' (former United States Secretary of Transportation) and the Casey Summer home (former Pennsylvania Governor); later providing environmental consultation and support to the [Jack] Nicklaus Design Group for a signature golf course in the Pocono Mountains. Institutional facility work has included Allied Services and Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Today the firm continues to work on a multitude of projects across Pennsylvania, including large scale utility line environmental planning and design, institutional and commercial design and planning, and GIS database creation. Relying on its initial founding principles, Woodland Design Associates' environment forward approach continues to lead to common sense, aesthetically pleasing design solutions.

As their history shows, Woodland Design Associates has grown and adapted over time. Whether it is the new creation of a park or trail, gathering information to create an environmental database, or working on a small personal residence, Woodland always looks for fresh, exciting projects and seeks to continue to provide high level services.
